I'm doing something positive in this weird time!
Both catering employee and volunteer at Visio De Vlasborch
Eva Blankenberg, 33 years old, works in 'normal' daily life at SIMOL catering operation bv. In her case she works in the catering industry at Hockeyclub Berkel-Enschot. Before corona she worked full-time, unfortunately now only 20 hours. The work is also different. She spends a lot of time on personnel matters, rewriting manuals, tasks that have been taken up for some time and she maintains contact with staff, but above all misses contact with people.
Quest to be able to do something positive
Because she missed contact and also wanted to fill the time she had left by making a contribution that has added value in this time, she started looking. First, Eva tried to get into a hospital, which didn't work. An attempt at the GGD to help also came to nothing. After searching the internet to do something useful, to get a sense of satisfaction, she came across VughtvoorElkaar.nl and registered. She saw a vacancy from Visio De Vlasborch and she lives in the Zonneheuvel district. This together gave her the idea to contact Visio De Vlasborch. After all, she had done holiday work at Vughterstede in the past, so she knew the concern.
Volunteers at Visio de Vlasborch
Eva came into contact with José van der Bruggen, volunteer coordinator at Visio De Vlasborch. Currently residents are only allowed to receive 1 visitor per day due to all measures regarding corona. And part of the current volunteer group would rather not come to the residential care center in this corona time, or are themselves at an age that they belong to the risk group. De Vlasborch can therefore use the help of Eva, among others. Eva goes to De Vlasborch every week. It is checked which resident would like to go for a walk at that moment. Eva then takes this resident outside and together they go for a walk and have a nice chat. At the end of the walk there is a smile on the resident's face and Eva goes home with a satisfied feeling. She made a valuable contribution and the resident had a wonderful day.
I contribute something positive in this weird time!
Possibilities at Visio De Vlasborch
Eva had doubts at first, because she does not know how long she can be associated with De Vlasborch. When the measures are relaxed, she will go back to work fully. José indicates that he is happy with all the hands that can come and help. She used to make couples so that residents get a real buddy. In this time they have changed this, given all the circumstances, residents are happy when they can go outside and a volunteer goes for a walk with them. Because the volunteer work is about an hour a day, Eva also has enough time to do other things. Eva will also remain associated with De Vlasborch in the future. They can always call on her for major activities.
Approacher Ton
Approacher Ton Yes, I do a lot of volunteer work. I am coordinator and co-founder of Neighborhood Prevention Vught. From there I rolled into the handyman service. During that period I also became involved in the Repair Café. In the handyman service we work with 8 people, all with different backgrounds. The handyman service actually comprises 3 services: the odd jobs, the moving assistance, and the button service (remote control, etc.). We work for people who can't do the job themselves, who don't have the support or network to do it. And who have no money to engage a company. Applications for jobs come in through Welzijn Vught. That is where the first decision is made. We will then make contact and see what is needed if necessary. We identify ourselves with a card with a photo, we also have business cards. The jobs can vary from packing a moving box, hammering a nail into the wall for a painting or a leaking tap. But sometimes we also go to Karwei for a lamp or to get curtain rods that we hang up later. We do not have a fixed rate for our services, but Welzijn Vught does ask for a voluntary personal contribution, which is mandatory. Because we all have different backgrounds with different types of experience and we have a lot of contact with each other. We exchange knowledge and learn from each other. Together we are also very keen that we do this for people with a small budget. Of course I also look at the places we visit through the eyes of Neighborhood Prevention. Are the hinges and locks in order, are the containers not too close to the windows of the first floor, etc. We all have the social map of Vught with us. Sometimes we can also help someone with a hint to, for example, Wegwijs+ or Woonwijzer. Leaving with a smile on the inquirer's face, that's our greatest reward! For us it's often just a little bit of a problem, but someone who can't do it, is looking up against a mountain and he is so relieved. And for a number of applicants, social contact also applies. You can sit there for an hour talking and drinking coffee! Leaving with a smile on the inquirer's face, that's our greatest reward! Share these stories and inspire others to help too!
